Bubble growth on an impulsively powered microheater

چکیده
The dynamics of single vapor bubbles in FC-72 generated by a transient heat pulse applied to a square 260 · 260 lm microheater are investigated for different heat fluxes between 3 and 44 MW/m. It is found that in all cases the growth consists of two steps, a first relatively violent one, followed by a shrinking of the vapor mass and a subsequent slower expansion. At the higher heat fluxes, the initial growth takes the form of a thin vapor layer, and it is only at the end of the second phase that the bubble acquires a significant size in the direction normal to the heater. At low heat fluxes, on the other hand, the three-dimensional character is apparent from the very beginning. The air dissolved in the liquid diffuses into the bubble during its growth and significantly slows down its shrinking after the end of the heating phase. 2003 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Dynamic behaviors of approximately ellipsoidal microbubbles photothermally generated by a graphene oxide-microheater
Thermal microbubbles generally grow directly from the heater and are spherical to minimize surface tension. We demonstrate a novel type of microbubble indirectly generated from a graphene oxide-microheater. Graphene oxide's photothermal properties allowed for efficient generation of a thermal gradient field on the microscale. A series of approximately ellipsoidal microbubbles were generated on ...
متن کاملBubble nucleation and growth anomaly for a hydrophilic microheater attributed to metastable nanobubbles.
Nanobubbles on a hydrophilic surface immersed in water and ethanol are inferred from the response of the surface to two consecutive heat pulses with a variable separation time. Bubble nucleation occurs at specific positions on the surface during the first heat pulse but at lower nucleation temperatures and random locations on the second. Nanobubbles are hypothesized to form on collapse of the b...
متن کاملA High-order Model for Spike and Bubble in Impulsively Accelerated Interface
We present a high-order potential flow model for the motion of the impulsively accelerated unstable interface of infinite density jump. The Layzer model for the evolution of the interface is extended to high-order. The time-evolution solutions of the bubble and the spike in the interface are obtained from the high-order model. We show that the high-order model gives improvement on the predictio...
متن کاملNanosecond imaging of microboiling behavior on pulsed-heated au films modified with hydrophilic and hydrophobic self-assembled monolayers.
Fast transient microboiling has been characterized on modified gold microheaters using a novel laser strobe microscopy technique. Microheater surfaces of different hydrophobicity were prepared using self-assembled monolayers of hexadecane thiol (hydrophobic) and 16-mercaptohexadecanol (hydrophilic) as well as the naturally hydrophilic bare gold surface. The microheater was immersed in a pool of...
متن کاملStudy of Thermal Bubble Motion in Microchannel
The micro capillary pumped loop system (MCPL) is a highly efficient device for heat transfer because the main driving force is a result of thermo-bubbles in micro-channel. In this study, the scaling effect with respect to the dimensional geometry of MCPL was studied for improving the heat transfer performance. The results showed that when a larger heating power was provided by microheater, the ...
